Each year, the Early Career Committee (ECC), organizes roundtables that are oriented toward promoting the professional development of Early Career Scholars. These roundtables tend to emphasize struggles and opportunities in research and during career paths.
In the past the ECC has offered roundtables on topics such as: Methodological approaches to studying political psychology online, Challenges of the post – Ph.D. career, Publication Roundtable: Financing your research and getting published. The roundtable participants provide wonderful insights into different topics on political psychology.
Each year, the ECC attempts to tackle new themes and get insights from new faces. We encourage all Early Career Scholars to attend these roundtables at the upcoming ISPP meeting.
The ECC Roundtables are open to all conference attendees. You will not need to register for these events, just show up and be ready to learn!
Session 15: ECC Roundtable 1 - Navigating Opportunities and Challenges as Early Career Researchers
Are you a junior scholar facing opportunities and challenges as you navigate the early stages of your career? Do you have questions about transitioning from your Ph.D. studies to a postdoc or assistant professorship? Our roundtable will bring together scholars from different career phases to discuss best practices regarding research, teaching, and publication strategies. Our panelists, who come from political science and psychology, will advise on a broad range of topics, including how to say yes or no to opportunities, how to maintain a healthy work-life balance, how to seek out mentors, and more.
Session 33: ECC Roundtable 2 - The Dissertation is Done, Now What?
Are you wondering what to do with your completed dissertation? Our roundtable of scholars and editors will provide advice on the publications of dissertations and research articles. The discussions will also cover when it’s appropriate to walk away from a publication and how promotion and tenure committees view projects coming out of the dissertation.
